Massage therapist faces charges

MASSAGE LEADS TO ARREST:Massage therapist Christopher Barrett faces sexual battery charge after being accused of inappropriate actions during a massage.

By Brian Powers - bpowers@perutribune.com

After an investigation conducted by Peru Police Department Detective Captain Matthew Feller, local massage therapist Christopher Barrett, 44, Peru, was arrested Monday night on a warrant for sexual battery.

The warrant was the result of Feller’s investigation of a claim in which a woman reported Barrett inappropriately touched her during a massage on Feb. 14.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Barrett was working at a local establishment which employs contracted massage therapists.

The woman stated Barrett inappropriately touched and fondled her without consent during the course of the massage.

The victim also told police in a sworn video statement that she pushed her hand away and then lifted her leg for Barrett to stop. He is then accused of pushing the victim’s leg down and pulling down her underwear.

According to Feller’s probable cause statement, the victim spoke to the owner of the business the day after the incident and, as a result, the owner terminated Barrett’s access to the building, as well as had him remove his belongings from the premises.

Feller said in the affidavit he attempted to contact Barrett on March 25 to make an interview appointment, but could not make contact with him.

Feller then said he was contacted by an attorney representing Barrett stating her client would not be meeting with Feller or making any statements.

Feller filed a request for an arrest warrant for Barrett on April 6, and Barrett was arrested Monday night.

Barrett was released from the Miami County Jail with a $500 cash bond on April 9. He faces a Level 6 felony charge of sexual battery.
