Peru-ving the case

BEAUTY PRO: Terri & Co. Salon stylist Jessy Brown will be on hand to showcase styling tips, makeup demos and blowouts during ReDiscover Downtown Peru’s Second Saturday on April 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The salon will also offer refreshments and free consultations.

Ditch your mittens and put on your detective hat because the next ReDiscover Downtown Peru’s Second Saturday will celebrate spring with a mystery case, petting zoo and brand-new tunes.

Unique to this month, “Clue” fans and history lovers alike will be sure to enjoy “The Case of the Missing Horse.”

Citizens start with a map and venture to 20 different businesses to collect “clues” from famous Peruvians.

Local playwright Pat Piper created an original story based on Peru’s own history, and recruited downtown business employees, teachers and familiar faces from Ole Olsen Memorial Theater to don the habiliment and personality of the famous locals – who will deliver mini speeches detailing clues to “whodunit.”

“It’s nice to have something interactive, I’ve read the story and still can’t figure it out,” said ReDiscover Downtown Peru’s Second Saturday coordinator Kassi Kotkoski. “There’s really no guessing.”

For kids less enthused to investigate, Kid’s Corner returns with a little fresh air this month: a petting zoo will feature a mini goat, mini pig, bunnies, chickens and ducks on Third Street.

And over in City Hall, kids can create horses out of pool noodles, or get their portrait created by a caricature artist.

All Kids Corner activities will be located outside next month.

At Conny’s Little German Breadshop, Erich Schlieffer will play the accordion, and, to celebrate Owner Conny Woodruff’s new U.S. citizenship, there will be a basket of questions that the government asks individuals wanting to become a citizen. If you get the question right, your name will be enter to win a stash of pretzelrolls.

Later, Choral Reef, which Peru Tribune readers have previously voted “best local band,” will be performing new material at the Peru Maennerchor at 6:30 p.m.

But jumping into the fun, consider adding touch of glamour to your Saturday look. Terrie & Co. Salon is hosting a “blow out before you go out” event with Steward The Minion beginning at 5 p.m.

There will also be refreshments, make-up demos, styling how-tos, free consultations, giveaways, and even a selfie station for those insta pics.
