Marti Lee Hampton Phillips April 11, 1945 - July 4, 2018

Marti Lee Hampton Phillips, 73, of Peru passed away at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, following a brief illness.

She was born in Wabash, Indiana on April 11, 1945 to Millard G. Hampton and N. Alice (Sircy) Hampton Stark. She graduated from Peru High School in 1963, and graduated from the Cleveland Ohio Clinic School of Medical Technology, American Society of Clinical Pathology as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician in 1964. She married Charles T. Phillips in 1965. They had five children together, and divorced 1990. She went on to graduate from Indiana University with and Associate of Science in Nursing, and became a registered nurse in 1994. She was a member of the Indiana Adult Bowling League from 1973-1982, a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, a member of Bible Baptist Church, and worked at the Dukes Memorial Hospital lab as a certified phlebotomist for over 20 years. Marti worked very hard going back to school to get her nursing degree later in life and was a very dedicated and compassionate nurse.

Marti was very active in her children’s lives, attending and helping out with sports, circus, baton, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTO and numerous other events. Any activity that her children were involved in, she was there. Marti also attended many festivals and concerts at Little Nashville with her friends, having a love for music. She enjoyed gardening, shopping (especially for clothes), exercising and spending time with her family.

Marti is survived by her children: Dawn Phillips, Peru; Jeremy Phillips, Peru; Derek (Loree) Phillips, Wildwood Florida; Juli (Ronnie) Gehrich, Indianapolis; Jason Phillips, Peru; grandchildren Zack Mongosa (Jenna), Indianapolis; Ross Stoppel, Indianapolis; Braden Phillips, Peru; Shelby Bayford (Sean), Pacolet, South Carolina; Keaton Phillips, Wildwood Florida; Alayna Phillips, Wildwood, Florida; and great-grandchildren Kaydence, Mikayla, Bentley, Paisley, Kelsea and Dilan. Marti was preceded in death by her parents, and a son Michael Phillips.

Visitation will be held from 11:30am – 2pm on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 2pm, with Pastor Jim Butler officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
