A Peru man was arrested on 10 felony charges Monday afternoon following a one-year narcotics investigation led by the Indiana State Police.

According to an ISP press release, John W. Osborne, 30, was arrested on felony charges for conspiracy to deal methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, conspiracy to deal marijuana, possession of marijuana, two counts for possession of stolen property and conspiracy to deal a narcotic drug.

During the course of the investigation by officers assigned to the ISP Peru Posts All Crimes Policing Unit, probable cause was developed to obtain multiple Miami Circuit Court search warrants for homes and vehicles in Miami County and a residence in Cass County.

“A majority of the warrants were for trailers and vehicles located in Matt’s Mobile Home Manor on Ind. 218 west of U.S. 31,” stated information from the release. “Osborne resided in the trailer park.”

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Monday, officers from ISP, Miami County Sheriff’s Department, Peru Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Department executed the search warrants.

“During their search at various locations officers allegedly found approximately four pounds of crystal methamphetamine, approximately four pounds of marijuana, a handgun, two stolen all-terrain vehicles, heroin and approximately $120,000 in United States currency,” said the release.

The officer’s findings were reportedly located in four trailers, two of which were abandoned, and a wooded area near the mobile home park.

“It is alleged Osborne stashed the contraband in the various locations,” stated the release.

Following the various searches, officers were able to locate Osborne on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 500 South where they conducted a traffic stop which led to his arrest.

Osborne’s one month old son was also found in the vehicle with him at which time the child was released into the care of the Miami County Division of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Osborne was transported to the Miami County Jail where he is being held on a $120,000 surety bond.

In addition to troopers working from the ISP Peru Post, the MCSD, CCSD and Miami County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the investigation.

“All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” stated the release.
