Today

Main Street United Methodist Church: will hold a Nelson’s Port-a-Pit chicken sale on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Peru Kroger parking lot. Chicken will be available for $6.50 and Pit Potatoes for $3.50. All proceeds will be used for the youth programs and mission work. Advance tickets may be purchased and the Main Street Church at 81 W. Main St. in Peru.

Letter carriers in Miami County: will collect food for Macy’s Food Pantry, Miami County Helping Hands, Miami county Indians Food Bank and The Salvation Army. Place non-perishable food donations in plastic bags near mailboxes for pick up on this day, or bring items to the Peru Post Office behind the dock.

Bunker Hill United Methodist Church: will host a Second Saturday breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Freewill donations will be accepted. The church is located on the corner of Broadway and North Elm Street in Bunker Hill.

New Waverly United Methodist Church: will be serving their monthly breakfast from 7-9:30 a.m. The menu includes eggs, sausage, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal and beverages. A free will offering will be accepted. There will also be a bake sale. The proceeds from the breakfast and bake sale will benefit The Henderson Settlement mission in Kentucky. May 14

Bunker Hill: has rescheduled to hold a town meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room.

May 15

Miami County Farm Bureau Inc.: will have a board of directors meeting at 7 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Office. This is a policy meeting.

May 18

The United Way of Miami County: will host a Day of Caring to bring together teams of volunteers to help non-profit organizations or other projects that help beautify the community. This year’s Day of Caring will take place at Wabash Flats Mobile Home Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. To get involved, compile a group of people from work church or social group and call 765-473-4240. Individuals must be ages 16 and up or accompanied by an adult.

The Corinth Brethren Church: will sponsor a community breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at the Twelve Mile Community Building. Fried mush, sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes, smoked sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit cups, pastries and beverages will be served. The proceeds will benefit missions outreach. May 19

Peru High School: will host its band finale concert at 2 p.m. in the PHS auditorium. The Jazz Band and Concert Band will be the featured groups. There is no admission charge. 

May 24

Wayman A.M.E. Church: will host its annual spring barbecue on May 24, 25 and 30 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 201 E. 3rd St. in Peru. There will be rib or chicken dinners available with sides including cole slaw, baked beans, mac and cheese, greens and potato salad. The meals cost $13 with an additional $1 for each drink or dessert. There will be dine-in or carry-out options available. For more information, call 765-472-2369.

May 31

A Reminder from Miami County: Dog tags for 2019 are available in Room 107 of the courthouse between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Dog tag fees are $5 per dog and are due by May 31, 2019. Individuals can call the courthouse with any questions at 765-472-390 ext. 1860.

June 1

Harvesting Capabilities: will host the second annual all-inclusive special needs playdate and bowfishing experience from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Miami’s Fort. Individuals from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be there along with police, firemen, face painting, motorcycles, refreshments and freebies. June 21

Peru Rotary Club: will host the “Big Cup” golf outing at Peru Muni. There will be a lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12 p.m. Proceeds from the outing will benefit the “Shoes That Fit” program. Contact Ryan Schmidt for more information.

Movers and Shakers: The Peru Public Library will offer this every Monday on the children’s floor, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Story Time: The Peru Public Library will offer story time on the children’s floor every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Peru Animal Care and Control: will offer low cost pet spaying and neutering every second Thursday of the month. Drop-off times for dogs are 6:15-6:30 a.m., and cat drop-offs are from 6:30-6:45 a.m. Pickup time is from 5-5:30 p.m. Call 450-6750 for more information.

Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church: will host Saturday morning breakfast on the second Saturday of each month from 8-10:30 a.m. There will be scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage, fried potatoes, pancakes, coffee, orange juice and water. $6 donations are welcomed. Dukes Memorial Hospital: needs men and women volunteers, ages 18 and up. Those interested can pick up an application at the information desk, gift shop or registration desk. The application can then be turned in at the information desk and will hear back from the director of volunteers.
