1 killed, 2 injured in area Saturday morning crashes

BY JARED KEEVER - jkeever@perutribune.com

One man was killed and two other were injured in a pair of Saturday morning crashes in the region over the weekend.

The first crash, just before 6 a.m., happened west of U.S. 31 on Hoosier Boulevard near Grissom Air Reserve Base.

A summary of the crash from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Tavaris Greene, of Kokomo, was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango when it left the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility guide wire and then a tree before it caught fire, the summary said.

Green was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. His passenger, Kevin Walker, was taken to a Kokomo hospital by ambulance.

Shortly after that crash, Indiana State Police responded to a wreck a little over 20 miles away, in Wabash County, that killed one man.

Daniel Morgan was driving a 2012 Jeep Patriot eastbound near the 1200 block of Mill Street around 6 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into a guardrail on the north side of the road, a news release from the State Police said.

Authorities pronounced Morgan, 28, dead at the scene.

As of the time of the releases, both crashes remained under investigation.
