Barbara Babbs Sept. 13, 1937 - July 9, 2019

Barbara Babbs, 81, entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 after a brief illness. Her love for her family and her heavenly father was evident in the life she lived and the prayer warrior she became.

Barb was born to the late Donald and Naomi Brown in Converse, Indiana on Sept. 13, 1937. She was immersed into a large family where community, serving others and Christ was the foundation of her livelihood. She was kind, soft-spoken and surprisingly competitive. She always had a listening ear and never shied away from a good conversation.

Barb married her best friend, the late Orville E. Babbs, on June 2, 1957. She raised five children all while holding various manufacturing jobs and at one time, going to school full-time. She completed her CNA/QMA certification in the mid 1980s and worked almost 20 years at Miller's Merry Manor. Her love and adoration of people was emulated in the care she provided the residents and her devotion to her ailing husband.

Barbara lead, participated and directed many forms of music worship for almost 50 years, most at Peru First Church of the Nazarene. She received the Church of the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award for her dedication and countless hours of church service.

Barb's five children include sons Jim (Jane) of Peru, Indiana, Jerry (Kim) of Byron Center, Michigan, Jody (Kelly) of Kokomo, Indiana, daughters, Julie (James McCallister) of Barboursville, West Virginia and the late Jeanna (Rick) Mowery. She is survived by 11 grandchildren: Michael Mowery, Michelle Clapp, Curtis Babbs, Craig Babbs, Chad Babbs, Courtney Pacheco, Carley Riffe, Molly Babbs, Blake Babbs, Coby Babbs, and Katie Babbs, along with 12 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Carolyn Bryant (Jonesboro, Indiana) Donna Clymer (Marion, Indiana), and Tom Brown (Marion, Indiana).

Barbara's family will greet guests on Thursday, July 11 from 4 – 7 p.m. and one hour before the celebration of life service which is on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. The visitation and service will be held at Peru First Church of the Nazarene, 331 West 6th Street, Peru, IN. Barbara will be buried next to her husband of 42 years at Ever Rest Memorial Gardens in Logansport, Indiana.

Reverends Tony Winter and Mark Elliott will officiate the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Peru First Church of the Nazarene.
