STAFF REPORT - Peru Tribune

The Miami County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 72 recently announced recipients of $1,500 in scholarship money meant to help local high school graduates and continuing college students with their college tuition.

This year’s winners are Peru High School  graduate, Maegan Sinkovics, North Miami High School graduate, Ashley Lackman, and Wabash High School graduate, Abby Vinopal.

In a news release, the FOP lodge’s scholarship committee chair, Keith Smith, said the committee reviews applications for the scholarship and “judges them on a list of criteria including their high school performance, career goal, and how their career path will help give back to other members of our community.”

“We had a tough time deciding on winners this year due to a larger than normal applicant pool,” the rleas said. “All of our applicants were highly intelligent young adults with remarkable high school records. We at the Miami County FOP Lodge 72 thank every applicant for the time and effort put in to their applications and wish every student the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

Money for the annual scholarship comes from various fundraisers throughout the year, as well as donations received through vehicle unlock assistance, the release said.
