People looking looking for a little late-summer fun this weekend might try heading to northern Miami County to enjoy a few days of food and activity.

Denver Days, organized by the Denver Lions Club, started Thursday and runs through the weekend.

Sara Thomas, a Lions member who helps organize many of the activities, says there will be plenty to do during this year’s festival, the 30th annual.

“The tractor pull and horse pull, those are all pretty popular, well-attended events,” she told the Tribune on Thursday.

The fun starts today at 5 p.m. and will see three-on-three open basketball games at 6 p.m. as well the Clogging Clovers dancing in the activity tent at the same time. The horse pull starts at 7 p.m. not far away at the pulling track and there will be live music from 7 to 10 p.m.

Saturday will see more than a dozen activities starting with a pancake and sausage breakfast. There will be a 5k fun run and walk, a pizza eating contest and live music throughout the day as well as the community garage sale, car show and parade. The garden tractor pull starts at 7 p.m.

“Sunday we have a lot of stuff for kids,” Thomas said.

That will include a kids bicycle rodeo, a bike mud bog and a tug-of-war competition. Sunday is also the day for co-ed mud volleyball, adult horseshoes and an antique tractor pull.

“And it’s not on the flyer but are supposed to have pony rides and a petting zoo also,” Thomas said.
