Bicyclist seriously injured in Thursday night crash

STAFF REPORT - Peru Tribune

A Peru man had to be flown to a Fort Wayne hospital Thursday night after he was thrown from his bicycle in a crash with a truck.

Jacob Aulds, 35, was in serious condition when he had to be flown from Dukes Hospital following the 11:26 p.m. crash on Chili Avenue at an alley intersection, a release from the Indiana State Police said.

A preliminary investigation of that crash found that Aulds was riding his bike westbound in the alley just before the crash.

“Aulds failed to yield to traffic at Chili Avenue, and pulled into the path of a northbound 2002 Dodge pickup truck,” the release said. “The bicycle was struck by the truck, ejecting Aulds.”

Robert Scott, 34, of Peru, was listed in the release as the driver of the truck.

He was not injured and the crash remains under investigation.

Aulds was initially taken by ambulance to Dukes Hospital before being flown to Fort Wayne.
