Vaccination information

The Miami County Health Department is providing vaccinations now at the county health building on Court Street in Peru. Adult vaccination days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Eligible children can receive a COVID-19 vaccine on childhood vaccination days which are Tuesday and Thursday.

To make a vaccination appointment visit the state-run website ourshot.in.gov or by calling the state’s 211 telephone assistance service.

Testing available

The state of Indiana, in a partnership with OptumServe Health, has opened a coronavirus testing site at the Indiana National Guard armory at 77 German St. in Peru. Individuals who are symptomatic or COVID-19 or close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 positive patients are eligible for testing. Residents will not be charged for testing and insurance is not required, but those with insurance are asked to bring information with them. COVID-19 testing is also available through the Miami County Department of Health at the county health building on Court Street in Peru. Those who need to make an appointment for testing still need to do so by visiting scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov or calling 765-472-3901 Ext 1293 if assistance is required. Testing hours will be Monday and Wednesday 2 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Testing is drive-up only, on Fifth Street. Those with testing appointments or needing appointments are asked not enter the Health Department building.

June 13

The New Life United Methodist Church will host a “Holy Smoke Cookout” at noon on June 13 at 3039 W 400 N in Mexico. All are welcome to attend for games and fun. Free will donations accepted.

June 14

The Miami County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will convene an executive session at 7 p.m. on June 14 in the Peru USDA Service Center at 1626 W. Logansport Road. A public session will follow.

June 15

The Peru Community Schools Board of School Trustees will convene an executive session at 5 p.m. on June 15 in the administrative center on West Third Street. A public session will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The North Miami Schools Board of School Trustees will convene an executive session at 6 p.m. on June 15 in the central office. A public session will begin at 7 p.m.

June 16

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, the Peru Utilities Service Board meeting scheduled for June 16 at 4 p.m. will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Scheduling information and a link to join the meeting can be found at peruutilities.com.

June 25

The annual Twelve Mile Area Garage Sales will be June 25 to 26. Maps will be available downtown at the Twelve Mile Post Office and the Firehouse Cafe.

June 28

The Miami County Public Defender Board meeting scheduled for June 14 has been moved to June 28 at 3 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Public Defender’s Office at 25 Court Street, Suite 208 in Peru.

Sept. 13

A Purdue Master Gardener basic training will be offered to Miami and surrounding county residents on Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. starting Sept.13 and ending Dec. 20.

Persons interested in registration information for the Master Gardener program should contact Purdue Extension Miami County located at 1029 W. 200 N., Peru IN 46970-7526, 765-472-1921, schmi163@purdue.edu. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $170.

Dog tags are available at the Miami County Courthouse, Room 107, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The fee is $5 per dog. Residents can also mail payment to Miami County Courthouse, 25 N. Broadway, Room 107, Peru, IN 46970. They are asked to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope and tags will be mailed along with a receipt. Please make checks payable to Miami County Treasurer. The Miami County Republican Party holds its monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at party headquarters at 171 N. Miami St. in Peru.
