Vaccination information

The Miami County Health Department is providing vaccines Monday through Friday at the First Christian Church’s Old Firehouse located at 12 N Miami Street. Appointments on Saturday, April 3, will be at the St. Charles gymnasium at 58 West Fifth Street.

Please note that Saturday locations will continue to change according to availability of venues. Check this space for updated information.

Drive-thru appointments are no longer available at Dukes Memorial Hospital, but in-vehicle shots can be accommodated at the other locations for those with mobility issues.

To make an appointment visit the state-run website ourshot.in.gov or by calling the state’s 211 telephone assistance service. COVID-19 vaccines are not being given at the county health department location on Court Street. Please note the day and time of your appointment and the corresponding location listed above.

Testing available

The state of Indiana, in a partnership with OptumServe Health, has opened a coronavirus testing site at the Indiana National Guard armory at 77 German St. in Peru. Individuals who are symptomatic or COVID-19 or close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 positive patients are eligible for testing. Residents will not be charged for testing and insurance is not required, but those with insurance are asked to bring information with them. COVID-19 testing is also now available through the Miami County Department of Health in partnership with Dukes Hospital. Testing is available to all members of the public regardless of symptoms. Children as young as 2 can be tested with parental consent. The site at the Boulevard entrance of Dukes Hospital is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. April 8

The Maconaquah School Board will convene a special meeting on April 8 at 6 p.m. at will Maconaquah Elementary School, 7784 South Strawtown Pike in Bunker Hill to consider contracts for public work projects; authorizing the execution of and entering into necessary documents related thereto and any and all other business as may come the meeting. A copy documents to be considered at the meeting are available at 7932 South Strawtown Pike in Bunker Hill.

April 10

Parkview United Methodist Church will host a drive-thru only tenderoin divver sponsored by the Richvalley Lions Club on April 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 1785 S. State Road 19. Cost is $10 with two options. Full Meal: Two tenderloins, potato chips, baked beans, applesauce. Meat Only: Three tenderloins. No presale tickets. April 12

The First Baptist Church of Denver will host an American Red Cross blood drive on April 12 from 1 to 6:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall at 111 N. Yorick St. To schedule an appointment call 1-800-733-2767 or go online to RedCrossBlood.org. and enter fbcden and if possible use the Rapid Pass. (Temperature will be taken, social distancing will be observed and masks required.)

April 17

The Orlando A. Somers Camp #1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will meet April 17 at noon at the South Branch of the Howard County Public Library, 1755 E. Center Road in Kokomo. Any descendant of a Union soldier or sailor or anyone who has an interest in the Civil War is invited to attend. For more information, call 765-667-1940.

Bennetts Switch Community Church will host a fish and tenderloin fry on April 17 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will be drive-thru only. Meals include fish, tenderloin, or a combo as well as baked beans, apple sauce, chips and cookies. Free will donation.

April 24

The Peru Lions Club will host its “Tenderlion Day” on April 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. or as supplies last. The event, to be held this year at the First Christian Church Firehouse building at Main and Miami streets, replaces the bi-annual dinner and Circus City Festival event. May 15

Main Street United Methodist Church will host a Nelson’s Port-a-Pit chicken sale on May 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church parking lot at 81 W. Main St. Pit Potatoes will also be available. All proceeds will be used for the church’s youth programs and mission work. Advance tickets may be purchased at the church.

Ongoing

Dog tags are available at the Miami County Courthouse, Room 107, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The fee is $5 per dog. Residents can also mail payment to Miami County Courthouse, 25 N. Broadway, Room 107, Peru, IN 46970. They are asked to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope and tags will be mailed along with a receipt. Please make checks payable to Miami County Treasurer.
