Manning files for re-election as state rep

Ethan Manning

State Rep. Ethan Manning has filed paperwork to run for re-election in the 2020 Republican Primary.

Voters first elected Maning (R-Denver) in 2018 to represent District 23, which includes portions of Miami, Cass, and Fulton counties. Prior to that, he was president of the Miami County Council.

“This work is all about people,” Manning said in a news release announcing his re-election bid. “I’m so grateful for the support shown to me over the past two years and glad to have accomplished some of our goals, but there is so much more to be done.”

Manning, who serves as vice chairman of Utilities, Energy, and Telecommunications Committee and is also a member of both the Public Health Committee and the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee in the House, said he wants to continue working on “the long-term planning for U.S. 31” and to “continue to support statewide policies such as increasing access to healthcare in shortage areas, asking for additional funding for our small and rural schools, maintaining a balanced budget, advocating for agriculture, (and) protecting our Second Amendment rights”

Manning lives in Denver and grew up near Macy on his family farm, Manning Cattle Company.

He is an associate broker at Carriger Oldfather Realty and owns Manning Auctions. He is engaged to Dr. Bridget Kennedy and they are set to be married in the summer of 2020. Manning also serves as chair of the Miami County Republican Party and as a member of the Indiana Republican State Committee. He is a member of the Peru Rotary Club, Peru-Miami Masonic Lodge, the National Rifle Association, Indiana Farm Bureau, and the Indiana Beef Cattle Association.

“The best part of this job is helping constituents directly with issues they are having with state government,” he said in part in the release. “In the past two years, we’ve been able to help a family get their health insurance reinstated, help a local institution work through an appeals process successfully, and take other actions to help when we can.”

No opponent, to date, has filed to run against him.
