Thrift store has free winter coats

BY GABBY DAVIS - gdavis@perutribune.com

Still need a winter coat?

Harvesting Capabilities Thrift Store in Peru has about 60 coats available that are left over from the Nov. 4 Coats for Kids drive at Peru Junior High School.

The annual Peru-Grissom Kiwanis Club event provided gently used coats for area families and children, but that afternoon Harvesting Capabilities Store Manager Anita Day received a call offering some that hadn’t been taken.

Sizes infant through adult were still available on Thursday morning at the store, but “they’re going like hotcakes!” Day said.

The rest of the children’s coats were sent to Elmwood Primary Learning Center, she said.

This is the first year Harvesting Capabilities has taken coats that were left over from the Coats for Kids drive.

“I’m always trying to help,” Day said. “If there’s anything that I can do to help the community, then I’m going to,” she said.

And even if all the free coats are taken, Harvesting Capabilties is having a free clothing giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 11, Day said.

In addition, Veterans will receive 25 percent off – excluding medical supplies – and Santa will be making an appearance from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Harvesting Capabilities is located at 231 N Grant St in Peru and the phone number is 765-472-1902.
