The information in the following report was obtained from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies. Individuals named in this report are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

Chelsea N. Shupperd, 26, 20 Adams Ave., was arrested at 11:06 a.m. on Monday (PPD) and was charged with theft. 

Daniel E. Roberts, 34, 685 Wooburn Green Drive, was arrested at 1:15 p.m. on Monday (PPD) and was charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent. 

Matthew Hull, 47, 500 Hayden Park Apt. 8, North Vernon, was arrested at 3 p.m. on Monday (MCSD) and was charged with failure to appear and a body attachment. 

Erin Taylor, 37, 412 E. Sixth St., was arrested at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (PPD) and was charged with a body attachment.

8:38 a.m. Miami County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Indiana State Police and the Mexico Fire Department, responded to a vehicle fire that was close to a structure at 3664 W. 400 N. The cause of the fire is undetermined due to the amount of damage to the vehicle. The vehicle involved was a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle was a total loss. 

10:11 a.m. The owner of business located at 97 W. Harrison St. in Denver called to report glass breakage at the front door of his business in Denver. The caller said it occurred between 9:45 a.m. and 9:55 a.m. The caller advised that there were some golf ball sized rocks in the roadway and could have been pinched between a tire and the roadway, causing the rock to be forced through his window. Police checked with the other business owners and they had not seen anyone in the area at the time of the breakage.

12:02 p.m. Officers investigated a property damage only accident on C.R. 300 E., just south of C.R. 200 N. Dallas Harman, of Peru, was operating his 2007 Ford Ranger when he was involved in a collision with a 2016 Republic garbage truck operated by Travis Shadden, of Wabash. Minimal damage was reported, and no injuries were reported.

2:21 p.m. An officer with the Peru Police Department struck a wooden log while in their commission in the area of 680 Woodburn Green Dr. No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at more than $1,000.

4:25 p.m. Darryl Lurks, of Illinois, was driving 2003 Chevrolet Suburban when he backed into a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Carl Grimmett of Peru. No injuries were reported, and the damage is estimated at less than $1,000.

5:50 p.m. Police responded to a report of an unresponsive female in a yard at 2270 W. S.R. 18. Ruby F. Barnett, 84, of the same address, was located by emergency personal. She was pronounced dead a by the Miami County Coroner’s Office. The cause of death has been determined to be natural causes. 

Peru Police Department 


12:57 a.m. A male caller told police that people were in his trees on W. 14th Street. Officers were unable to locate anyone. 

10:49 a.m. A warrant service was attempted at 227 E. Third St. Officers then checked 509 E. Main St. and located Chelsea Shupperd. She was transported to the Miami County Sheriff’s Department without incident.

1:34 p.m. A male subject was issued citations for speed and false or fictitious registration after a traffic stop at S. Lincoln Street and E. Canal Street. 

7:39 p.m. A caller said the back of their house and vehicle were egged overnight. They requested additional patrol during the late hours of the day. 

8:20 p.m. A caller told police that a group of kids were riding a dirt bike on Boulevard. Deputies located the parents and advised them they could not ride on city streets or sidewalk.
