Citizen meeting on CAFOs planned
Miami County residents who are interested in the issue of CAFOs (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) in the county are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Jan. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Peru Public Library meeting room.
Julie Vaughn, a representative of the Citizen Action Coalition, will be speaking.
Presently the representatives from the county are reviewing the zoning ordinances for CAFOs. According to discussions from a recent meeting, there are presently at least 54 CAFOs and approximately 250,000 or more pigs being raised the county.
Concerned citizens want to make sure that the facts are presented and options are available for the elected officials to make informed decisions.
